Free to use. Premium for the extras.
Every feature is currently unlocked for free. After the launch period ends, KeptMiles stays free with a generous monthly limit, and Premium adds the tools you need for heavier business use.
Nothing dramatic. The app carries on working exactly as it does now. The launch promotion simply ends and the free/Premium split kicks in.
If you've been using KeptMiles during the launch period:
If 20 journeys a month is enough for you, the free plan is genuinely free — forever. Premium exists for people who drive for a living and need unlimited tracking, export and backup at Self Assessment time.
Subscriptions are forward-only — they unlock the months from the point you subscribed onwards. If you subscribe part-way through the tax year and later need earlier months for Self Assessment, a Monthly Unlock fills the gap.
Nothing bad. KeptMiles keeps working exactly as before. The launch promotion ends, so the free plan falls back to its normal limit of 20 tracked journeys per month. Any journeys beyond that are still recorded on your device but locked until you either upgrade or buy a one-off unlock for that month. Your existing journeys, classifications and reports stay fully accessible.
Yes, indefinitely. The free plan includes up to 20 tracked journeys per month, 3 saved locations, full automatic tracking, the tax-year dashboard with 10,000-mile threshold handling, calendar view, and manual entry. Most casual users never need to upgrade.
No — subscriptions are forward-only. When you subscribe, Premium unlocks the current month and every future month while the subscription stays active. Months before the point you subscribed stay locked if they went over the 20-journey free cap. This is where Monthly Unlock comes in: buy the number of past months you need (1 to 12) and the app unlocks the most recent locked months first. Combine a subscription for the rest of the year with a one-off unlock to fill in the earlier months you missed.
The app picks automatically, starting with the most recent month that has locked journeys and working backwards. If you buy a 3-month unlock, it unlocks the three most recent locked months. Any one-off Monthly Unlock purchase also adds the current month for free as a goodwill bonus. You don't need to pick specific months manually — the logic is designed so that if you're sorting out a tax return, the months you most likely need are unlocked first.
It unlocks every month of the current UK tax year (6 April to 5 April) while your subscription is active, and writes those months to the device as soon as the subscription is verified. If you subscribe annually in, say, October, you'll have April through to the following March accessible — but only while the subscription is live. Months from tax years before the one you subscribed in aren't covered and still need a Monthly Unlock if you want them back.
No. All your journeys are recorded and stored on your device regardless of plan. Journeys beyond the free-tier cap are locked from view and export but never deleted. You can unlock them at any time by subscribing or buying a per-month unlock.
Yes, cancel through Google Play at any time. You keep Premium features until the end of your billing period. Every month that was unlocked — whether by your subscription or by a one-off Monthly Unlock — stays unlocked permanently. You won't lose access to journey data for months you've already paid to see. The subscription's only role going forward is unlocking new months.
Yes. All Premium subscribers get new features as they ship, at no extra cost. I'm a solo developer and improvements ship continually.
Refunds are handled through Google Play's standard refund policy. If you're unhappy, email mark@keepcomputing.co.uk and I'll sort it out.
Every Premium feature is unlocked for free until 5th April 2027 (end of 26/27 tax year).
